RFI: fabric

Goth beard
Anyone know where I can get lots of black flannel? I have a sewing project in mind for which I want something that will hang well, yet be warm. I've checked the Queen West fabric stores and had no luck. I'm trying to avoid dyeing white flannel or similar, since I am fairly lazy.

I've found polar fleece in black, but that's too heavy for what I have in mind.

the next time you're in KW during business hours, try Lens Mill Store in waterloo; they generally carry it as a staple.

i can try and get in to check it out this afternoon or tomorrow before class and report back to you. if not, i'll go friday.

Len's Mill is very close to here (i.e., I can see it from my bedroom window, or could if the building across the road weren't in the way) - if you want, [info]curgoth, I can wander over and check this morning. How much do you need?

I haven't done the exact measurements yet, but I'm planning to make a hakama out of it, so I'll need a fair bit - I'm guessing 5-6 metres. If you happen you stop by and they have some, let me know how much it costs per metre.

KK - I need milk anyway, so I'll go within a couple of hours. :)

Flannel hakama.

I sincerely hope you're going to be somewhere without central heat while it's cold outside with that on...

Yup. They're intended as camping wear for Kaleidoscope - last year the temperature dropped hugely overnight, so at 2 am sitting on the beach, I was shivering even with a hoodie and a running sweater, partly because I was wearing lightweight wrap pants on my lower body. I figure flannel hakama should keep me warm. I'm hoping to combine them with some polar fleece arm-warmers with finger pockets and possibly some kind of polar fleece vest/jacket of non-Japanese design.

*g* I guessed you were making Fest wrap pants!

Hmmmm...that's not a bad thought, actually...

They *are* for fest, i just decided that I wanted something other than wrap pants. :)

I went by, the closest I could come was black flannelette (which doesn't seem all that different to me?), for 4.39/m.

If you want it, let me know and I'll go back over tomorrow (I'm too bagged for another trip today), and get what you need. It'd be under $30, so I don't mind advancing the money til we can meet up. :)

w00t! I'll firm up the measurements tonight and let you know. (the pattern i have gives the fabric requirement in multiples of the person's measurements...)

Calculations suggest that I need exactly 5 yards, lengthwise. Let's go to six metres/yards (whichever they sell in) to be safe. Widthwise I'm probably better off if they have it in 150 cm width instead of 100 cm.

It'll be metres - six metres, preferably at 150cm. I'll go down later this afternoon.

There will likely be pictures. I will probably wear a shirt though, unless the weight loss goes better than expected. :)

there's a fabric land at yonge and bloor (exit the subway out the normal exit, but turn left instead of going up the stairs & out the door) (iv'e never actually been there, but i've been told that's where it is). maybe they have some! if you are going, let me know, we should go together. ... actually, that would be lots of fun, want to do that?

I've got a gift cert for fabricland that I need to use, and that's generally my preferred location. Even if I end up sourcing the flannel from KW, I am overdue for a fabricland trip. How's next Saturday afternoon look for you?

i've never been to that fabricland, but would greatly enjoy going with you. if by next saturday you mean the 12th, then i'm good to go! if you mean this saturday (the 5th), my day is too busy with other stuff (and prepping for yurisnight.ca, are you coming?).

Yup, I meant the 12th. I'm going to Bent instead of Yuri's night on the 5th - the first Saturday of the month is always so busy! I always end up with at least two things I want to do, but this month things are working out so that Bent will take the entire evening for me.

How does 2pm at Yonge and Bloor sound? We could meet up at the subway station outside the turnstiles.

Dying something black I have found to be a frustrating exercise. The stuff never comes out dark enough and it fades off to a weird blue entirely too quickly.
