Dear universe

Dear Universe,

My body has hit it's exhaustion limit. The shaking hands, stomach ache and headache would seem to indicate that I can't push myself any further with legal chemicals. I should not be able to fall asleep at my desk with two pots of tea in me.

Looking at my weekend schedule, I see nothing in there that would prevent me from getting three solid nights' worth of sleep.

My request to you, Universe, is that you do not produce anything further to keep me from sleeping. No more surprise alarm clocks, early rising children, work pages or middle of the night hiccough attacks. I don't think this is an unreasonable request. I look forward to your co-operation in this endeavour.

Sincerely,

Me.

might i recommend a mid-evening cocktail of melatonin and gravol perhaps, maybe chased with a noggin' of something alcoholic, as a means of clubbing your brainwaves into submission for the first night, then seeing how it goes? then again, you could always go somewhere where you've traditionally slept well, and crash there.

the first several months of dating matthew_g, i slept better there than here, in large part because it was just simply *elsewhere* and removed from associated mental distractions and stress. might be something to consider.

I've been using alcohol as a caffeine counteragent in the evenings for the past week, and my body doesn't seem terribly impressed with that approach any more. I'm at the point where once I get into a bed (any bed really), odds are I'll sleep like the dead providing nothing comes along to interrupt me. It's just been a couple weeks of either being overworked to the point of not being able to sleep enough, and being interrupted *every* time things calm down enough for me to get enough sleep. I just needto avoid the conspiracy of coincidences long enough to make it through a couple days caffeine free and I think I'll be able to get back to normal.

go somewhere where the coincidences are less likely to conspire, then. leave the cellphone somewhere where it won't wake you up; you can always check messages later. a pair of foam earplugs might be no bad investment, either.

*hugs*

i hope things work out.

I second that!
Ear plugs were going to be my suggestion too! (:

This just reminded me of a time I was staying at a friend's place. I was woken up around 5 am on a Saturday morning by the sounds of a child in the flat above yelling at the top of his lungs:

"MOMMY!"
"MOMMY!"
"MOMMY!"
"MOMMY!"

<mom, very tired>: "What is it?"
"I'M AWAKE!!!"

No shit, kid. So am I.
